PHASE 1
The initial step of an editorial project, RESEARCH entails brainstorming, consulting, and expanding on an idea by exploring other ways that it may or may not have been previously presented. Next, WRITING consists of cohesively creating compelling content with purpose, sense, and organization. This phase comprises the bulk of work involved and sets the foundation for the rest of the editorial project.
PHASE 2
RE-WRITING occurs when already written content requires much more clarity—in essence, an overhaul to build upon the content while re-structuring it with a clearer concept. FACT-CHECKING then makes sure that any included data, statements, and references are correct.
PHASE 3
The halfway point of an editorial project, EDITING then focuses on the overall flow of written content including tone, order, transitions, word choices, discrepancies, redundant information, omitted details, and brevity; this step also incorporates replies to queries. At times, clients may also need TRANSLATING from a language other than English; Way With Words then partners with fluent speakers of Spanish, French, Greek, and other languages to translate content accurately into American English.
PHASE 4
PROOFREADING meticulously ensures consistent and correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, spacing, sizing, sequencing, cross-referencing, style, and the like in written content. Focusing on typography, the next step of FORMATTING can include images that warrant expertise of graphic designers who then partner with Way With Words. Lastly, COPYFITTING entails making written content concise—eliminating text to adhere to a certain word count. Editing and proofreading may also be necessary after both formatting and copyfitting, to check that content remains clear and consistent in addition to concise.
